In front of 26,117 spectators at the sold-out Alm, Marius Wörl in the 12th minute and André Becker (71st) scored the goals for the Bielefeld outsiders.

TSG Hoffenheim – 1. FC Nürnberg 2:1 (1:0)

Matthias Ginter scored the lead in the 19th minute, Vincenzo Grifo increased the lead with a penalty kick (44th). The second division team from Hamburg was able to score the next goal through Jonas Meffert (51st), but in the end they were no longer able to put SC coach Julian Schuster’s team in any decisive trouble.

Hamburg initially got into the game well before the team from Freiburg took the lead. After Freiburg’s deserved 1-0 win, little happened until HSV defender Daniel Elfadli fouled Freiburg’s Maximilian Eggestein in the penalty area. Grifo converted the penalty. The second half also began with a strong HSV and Meffert’s goal. But Freiburg were able to defend their narrow lead until the end.

Eintracht Frankfurt – Borussia Mönchengladbach 2:1 (1:0)

After a red card for Arthur Theate in the 15th minute, Eintracht won the duel between the Bundesliga clubs at home 2-1 (1-0). The hosts took the lead shortly before the break through striker Hugo Ekitiké (45th + 2). At the beginning of the second half, central defender Ko Itakura (47th) equalized for Borussia. Substitute Omar Marmoush scored Frankfurt’s winning goal in the 70th minute.

For Frankfurt defender Theate it is the second expulsion in just three days. Theate had already seen yellow-red against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga at the weekend.

SC Paderborn – Werder Bremen 0:1 (0:1)

Werder Bremen have reached the round of 16 of the competition for the first time since 2020. Coach Ole Werner’s team narrowly won 1-0 (1-0) in Paderborn against the second division club SC Paderborn. Marvin Ducksch (30th) scored the decisive goal for victory in front of 15,000 spectators. Paderborn became more active, especially in the second half, but missed a few opportunities to equalize and were denied several times by Werder goalkeeper Michael Zetterer.

The hosts from Paderborn started the game offensively and had good chances. Bremen’s opening goal came after a poorly played back pass from Marcel Hoffmeier, Ducksch scored effortlessly. After the break, the Paderborn team increased the tempo, but despite a few chances to score, they were unable to equalize.

Hertha BSC – 1. FC Heidenheim 2:1 (1:0)

The Bundesliga club 1. FC Heidenheim lost 1:2 (0:1) in Berlin and, like in the previous season, missed out on a place in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup. The second division teams from Berlin celebrated their move into the next round in front of 44,135 spectators in the Olympic Stadium. Derry Scherhant (16th minute) and Michaël Cuisance (74th) scored for Hertha. Heidenheim’s Stefan Schimmer made it 1-2 shortly before the end (89′). The supposed equalizer by Paul Wanner in stoppage time (90+5) was withdrawn.

Heidenheim didn’t seem at ease right from the start. Hertha was able to combine into the opponent’s penalty area again and again. A Heidenheim attempt to clear the ball ended up with Scherhant, who pushed the ball into the goal from close range. Hertha continued to dominate the game, the guests seemed unimaginative and hardly created any chances.
