The second round of the men’s tennis Rolex Paris Masters (France/Paris, indoor hard, ATP Masters) was held on the 29th in the singles match, with 6th seed A. Rublev facing world No. 29 F. Cerundro (Argentina). They lost in straight sets 6-7 (6-8), 6-7 (5-7) and were eliminated in the second round. There was a scene in which Rublev, who was mentally disturbed during the match, hit his knee so hard with a racket that it bled.

Rublev, 27 years old and ranked No. 7 in the world, will be participating in the tournament for the sixth consecutive year and seventh time. At last year’s tournament, he reached the top four, his best result.
In this tournament, the top eight seeds are exempt from the first round, so Rublev appeared in the second round.
In the first set of the second round, where he faced the 26-year-old Cerundro, Rublev broke first in the second game, but in the ninth game, when he was serving for the set, he became irritated by the voices of the audience. He showed a lack of concentration and allowed a breakback.
Rublev was then broken for the second time in the 11th game, and in frustration, he slammed his water bottle on the court during a change of courts.
Although he got a break in the 12th game to force a tie-break, Rublev lost the tie-break and took the lead.
At the first point of the third game in the second set, with both players breaking once, Rublev netted a forehand and, in a fit of frustration, repeatedly hit his own knee with his racket. His knee bled, blood running down his leg.
Rublev conceded his second break of the game and then broke back, but was unable to get a tiebreak in this set either and ran out after 2 hours and 18 minutes.
Rublev, who is known for often losing his mind during matches, suffered a similar injury from his knee during the final Nitto ATP Finals (Turin, Italy, indoor hard) last November.
Cerundro, who won, will face 10th seed S. Tsitsipas (Greece) in the third round. Tsitsipas advanced by defeating world No. 22 A. Tabilo (Chile) in the second round.
It was a tough early defeat for Rublev, who is currently in 8th place in the “RACE TO TURIN” for a spot in this year’s final tournament, the Niito ATP Finals.
