José Peseiro Nominated for Best Coach of the Year: A Look at His International Achievements and Impact

José Peseiro is the only Portuguese on the list of 20 nominees for the 2024 best coach award for IFFHS (International Federation of Football History and Statistics). The coach led Nigeria to the CAN’2023 final – after winning five of the six qualifiers – in January, losing (1-2) to Ivory Coast in the decisive game. He would end up leaving his position in March, due to the difficulties experienced in the federation.

“It’s a cycle that ends, ends well. We sacrificed a lot, we went through difficulties in various areas: structural, financial, economic, organizational and logistical. We reached the final. The results were good. We feel that, at this moment, it is better to move on another project”, explained, at the time, Record.

Among the nominees are also the 2023 winner Lionel Scaloni (Argentina) or Luis de la Fuente, who led Spain to win Euro’2024.
