NAC Breda is out of the TOTO KNVB Cup after the first round. The people of Breda surprisingly lost to the amateurs of BVV Barendrecht on Wednesday evening: 2-1. The winning goal came in the 94th minute.
Last season, NAC Breda also lost in the first round, against the amateurs of Quick Boys. The difference with then is that NAC is now an Eredivisie player and occupies seventh place.

The home team, number six in the Second Division, started the cup match excellently. After 8 minutes Wouter Vermeer scored. There was no further scoring until the half-time whistle, although there were chances on both sides. Among the guests it was Max Balard with the greatest opportunity.
Opportunities NAC
NAC Breda’s equalizer quickly followed in the second half. It was Lars Mol who scored the 1-1. The team of coach Carl Hoefkens then went all out for the win. Elías Már Ómarsson was close to taking the lead halfway through the second half, but the striker was unable to get the ball past the goalkeeper. Leo Sauer also missed a great chance to score 1-2.
Hectic final phase
In the final phase a lot happened in Barendrecht. First it was on behalf of the local BVV Joshua Kassels with a long shot on the crossbar. A minute later, NAC goalkeeper Daniel Bjelica had to intervene on a free kick. Then it was NAC with a number of chances, including Raul Paula’s header on the crossbar.

Just when it was almost time for extra time, the home team struck through Brent Vugts: 2-1. Just like last year, a cup disgrace, allowing NAC Breda to fully focus on the competition.
