Tennis professional Zverev continues in Paris

Alexander Zverev has a successful start in Paris. Tennis professional Jan-Lennard Struff, however, cannot build on his first round success.

Paris. Alexander Zverev started the Paris tennis tournament with a victory. After a bye in the first round, the 2021 Olympic champion beat Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 7:6 (7:2), 6:3 at the Masters 1000 event. In the round of 16, the 27-year-old from Hamburg will now face Frenchman Arthur Fils.

Zverev had a hard time in the first set in the French capital and after a long fight prevailed against the committed Griekspoor. He managed the first break in the second set to make it 4-2, after which Zverev completed his 19th opening win in the 20th attempt this year. He recently missed the semi-finals at the ATP tournament in Vienna and is still waiting for his second title win in 2024.

The upcoming opponent Fils had previously defeated the German Jan-Lennard Struff. The 34-year-old Sauerlander had to admit defeat 3:6, 4:6. At the start, Struff had defeated the favorite Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

Struff leads the squad that represents the German Tennis Association at the final round of the Davis Cup in Malaga at the end of November. Top player Alexander Zverev canceled his participation in the national competition.
