Helmut Marko, advisor to Red Bull Racing, has clearly indicated, just like Christian Horner, what the current situation is regarding Sergio Pérez‘s future at the team. Quite uncertain, as it turns out.
In conversation with ORF Following team boss Horner, Marko now also announces that Pérez’s future is certainly not yet certain despite his new contract. “It’s open.” According to Marko, it is unacceptable that the Mexican makes such a mistake as he did last weekend at the start in Mexico and was therefore already behind before the Grand Prix had even started. “I can only say ‘yes’ and admit that. Such a mistake should not happen. His start was sensational, really good, but that made the penalty all the more annoying. Then followed that unnecessary collision, in which I think Lawson did something was more to blame.”

According to Marko, damage to Pérez was enormous
Marko is a fan of Liam Lawson‘s aggressive driving style. “But if it had been with someone else, yes. Not if it is a sister team, then we have to deal with each other a little differently.” According to Marko, the damage to the Mexican’s car was so extensive that Pérez’s race was doomed to failure. “He had damage to the floor and to the side of his car, which meant he missed sixty downforce points. What he could do afterwards in the race didn’t really matter anymore.”
Marko sees Red Bull drop to third place among F1 constructors
Thanks to Ferrari’s good weekend, the Italian team has now risen to second place among the constructors and surpassed Red Bull. “That does hurt, because the bonuses of our team members depend on the constructors’ championship. So that is not something to be happy about. But hey, even for McLaren it can still be tight when you see how fast Ferrari is at the moment.” The extra wind tunnel time that the team will then receive is little consolation as far as Marko is concerned. “If you see how we are performing at the moment, everything has positive sides.”
