Cancoriet and Vergnes-Taillefer finally suspended for several weeks

Despite a “simple” card each received during La Rochelle-UBB, ten days ago, Judicaël Cancoriet and Bastien Vergnes-Taillefer did not escape a sanction from the National Rugby League.

Caught by the patrol. This Thursday, the disciplinary committee of the National Rugby League sanctioned the third row of La Rochelle Judicaël Cancoriet and the flanker of the UBB Bastien Vergnes-Taillefer, ten days after the victory (32-22) of the Rochelais against the Bordelo-Béglais in Marcel-Deflandre.

From the 10th minute of this meeting counting for the 7th day of Top 14, the evening referee, Tual Trainini, used the video to give a yellow card to Cancoriet, guilty of a high tackle on the Girondin hooker Connor Sa. The sanction was the same for Vergnes-Taillefer, at fault in a ruck during a clearing on… Cancoriet.

With a simple yellow card, both players got off lightly. Except that they were summoned before the disciplinary committee which imposed a suspension on them after hearings this Wednesday. First, both players were suspended for six weeks for “dangerous play.” Before their suspension was reduced after certain arguments were taken into account, such as admission of guilt and “good” conduct before and during the hearing.

Cancoriet pays for his repeat offense

While French international Yoram Moefana received two weeks, Bastien Vergnes-Taillefer’s suspension was reduced to three weeks and could also be reduced to two since the UBB third row has a clean record and will pass the Head Contact Process (HPC). On the other hand, Judicaël Cancoriet received a four-week suspension, an additional one, due to his background. He will therefore not play for a month and will be requalified on December 7.

Also suspended for four weeks, Castres center Adrea Cocagi will, however, be able, if he is called up for selection, to play again from November 17 during the fall tour thanks to his status as a Fijian international. Finally, Oyonnaxien Kévin Kornath was suspended for a week for accumulating three yellow cards.
