The south-east of Spain, particularly the Valencia region, was hit overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday by devastating floods which claimed the lives of several dozen people. The search continues this Thursday, in the hope of finding missing people.
In the meantime, small initiatives are popping up here and there to help raise funds to help the thousands of victims of these floods. This is particularly the case of a former player of the Valencia FC women’s team, Marta Peiro Gimenez. Current manager of the Swiss club Servette has launched an online fundraiser to contribute to the building of solidarity.
“I am Marta Peiro,” she wrote to present her approach. A Valencian woman directly affected by the floods which shook the Valencian community. All my immediate family members lost their homes, cars, furniture, clothes, valuables, etc. They have lost their WHOLE lives and have absolutely nothing left. We are completely devastated by the situation. This is the greatest tragedy we have ever known, an unprecedented catastrophe. With this account I not only intend to directly help my entire family, but also other Valencians who are starting their lives from scratch or who need help with health, food, water , etc. Every help counts »
As of 6 p.m. this Thursday, more than 1,200 soldiers are still deployed on the ground, mainly in the Valencia region, alongside firefighters, police and rescue workers who are seeking to locate possible survivors and are working to clear the disaster areas. .
