TSV Hannover-Burgdorf continues to ride a wave of success. The Lower Saxony team defeated TVB Stuttgart 33:20 (17:9) on Thursday evening and at least temporarily pushed MT Melsungen off the top of the Handball Bundesliga table.

It was the seventh success in the ninth game of the season for the “Recken”. Coach Christian Prokop’s team impressed against the second-to-last in the table with excellent coverage and a mature play.

The truth of a one-sided game, however, was that the Swabians sometimes made scoring goals very easy for the Lower Saxony team through unnecessary time penalties and weak defensive behavior. TVB coach Michael Schweikardt summed up his team’s dilemma during a timeout in the first half: “It’s okay to make mistakes. But it’s not okay to make stupid mistakes.”

“Recken” pull away with a 7-0 run

The spectators in the multi-purpose hall in Hanover only saw a fairly even encounter until the middle of the first section. Then Stuttgart’s two-minute penalties and errors piled up. The “Rights” knew how to take advantage of their opponent’s phase of weakness. The Prokop team moved from 9:7 to 16:7 with a 7:0 run and thus secured a preliminary decision before halftime.

In addition to middleman Jonathan Edvardsson, who cleverly pulled the strings in the game of the new leaders, keeper Simon Gade also stood out from a very good team for the North Germans.

Stuttgart overwhelmed by Hannover’s attack

Even after the break, Hanover’s dominance continued. TSV was able to quickly extend their lead to ten goals (21:11/37th). Stuttgart’s defense was mostly hopelessly overwhelmed by the variable and powerful attacking game of the “Recken”.

“We don’t need to look up anymore. This is now just for us,” said TVB coach Schweikardt during a timeout in the 42nd minute. Given Hannover’s superiority, he and his protégés could not think of catching up. For the relegation candidate, the only thing left to do in the remaining season was to keep the defeat within tolerable limits.

But even this plan failed for the guests. They put on a spooky performance on Halloween.
