Saarpfalz-Kreis will receive a good 1.4 million euros for the further development of the public health service

The “Pact for the Public Health Service” aims to create sustainable structures for health authorities. This measure sets an important health policy course in order to further develop and strengthen the public health service (ÖGD) structurally.

Saarland will receive a total of around 35 million euros from the federal government until 2026 for the implementation of the ÖGD pact. On October 30, 2024, Minister Dr. Magnus Jung awarded the Saarpfalz district grants amounting to over 1.4 million euros to strengthen the health department’s personnel.

In this context, Minister Magnus Jung emphasizes the importance of sustainable structures for the health authorities in Saarland: “The Public Health Service (ÖGD) plays a central role in the German health system. During the pandemic, the health authorities impressively demonstrated their effectiveness. Nevertheless, it has become clear that they need to be strengthened in the long term and better prepared for future challenges. The federal government has now taken measures to meet this need. The additional financial support is crucial in order to optimally align our ÖGD to future challenges.”

Saarland’s initiatives within the ÖGD pact aim to strengthen the health authorities so that they can continue to meet the requirements for ensuring the health of Saarlanders in a crisis-proof manner in the future. As part of the ÖGD pact, staff capacities are to be expanded, daily processes are digitized and the overall attractiveness of the ÖGD is increased.
