Lando Norris is currently 47 points behind Max Verstappen in the championship.
At the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, McLaren made a statement that it would support Norris in his championship fight. Therefore, Oscar Piastri is expected to support his teammate if necessary.
Speaking to Sky Sports F1, Piastri said: “We will see what the pace will be for both of us in the sprint, but our goal is to get the first two places.” he said.
When asked if he would give up a victory for his teammate, the McLaren driver replied: “I know Lando is fighting for the championship.”

“When this first came up, I said I would do it. It would be nice to win and I want it, but Lando needs points in the championship much more than I do.”
Regarding the innovations they brought to Brazil, Piastri said that McLaren’s new rear wing worked as expected and was a good support at a weekend when the team’s rivals did not bring any updates.
“The team is constantly striving to make the car even faster.”
“This wing is a nice new update for us here. We are very pleased with it.”
