Rebecca Šramková Reaches Finals at WTA Jiangxi: A Historic Achievement in Women’s Tennis

Slovak tennis player Rebecca Šramková advanced to her third final on the WTA circuit. In the semifinals of the WTA 250 tournament in the city of Jiujiang in the Chinese province of Jiangxi, she won in the position of the second seed over the German Laura Siegemund in two sets 7:6 (4) and 6:2. On Sunday, she will meet the Swiss Viktorija Golubicova in the fight for the trophy.

The twenty-seven-year-old Slovak also defeated Siegemundová in the finals of the tournament in Thailand’s Hua Hin in September, where she won her first title on the WTA circuit. A week before, she advanced to the finals in Monastir, Tunisia, where she was not enough for the Briton Sonay Kartalová.

She then completed a successful September at the 1000 in Beijing by advancing from the qualification to the 3rd round and jumped just beyond the elite fifty in the world rankings. In it, for the first time in her career, she will definitely appear in Monday’s edition of the WTA rankings.

In Saturday’s semi-final, the Slovakian was already leading 5:3 in the first set against Siegemund, but the German rival was able to erase the deficit and force a tiebreak. In the shortened game, Šramková won three balls in a row from 4:4, and the opening act became her prey. In the second game, she already dominated the court, building a 5-0 lead, and although she then lost two games in a row, she did not lose a clear lead. The duel lasted 132 minutes.

Šramková has an unfavorable mutual record of 0:3 with Golubic, she lost to her three times on a hard surface in 2015 (Woking), 2020 (Brisbane) and 2021 (Fujajra). In the semifinals, Golubicová easily dealt with Bouzková, who, although she made it to the last four in China without losing a set, was betrayed by her serve in her attempt to reach the third final this year. During the entire match, she did not hold it even once.
