Sergio Perez is under a lot of pressure Red Bull Racing. After a number of disappointing weekends, he now really has to perform. Helmut Marko was not satisfied with Perez’s performance in Mexico and he points to several mistakes by the Mexican.
Perez had one of his worst weekends of the season in his home country. In qualifying he did not get through Q1, at the start he was wrongly positioned in his starting box and in the race he damaged his car in a duel with VCARB driver Liam Lawson. His mistake at the start had earned him a five-second time penalty, and he ultimately crossed the line last with a damaged car.
Incomprehensible
At Red Bull they were not satisfied with Perez’s performance. He is under enormous pressure and there is speculation about his future. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko is very critical in his column for Speedweek: “Sergio Perez had a bad weekend in Mexico. We know that qualifying is not his strength, but an elimination in Q1 is still very disappointing. That a man with his experience then places the car incorrectly in the starting box is incomprehensible and very unfortunate. Because his start was sensational.
Lawson
Marko already announced in Mexico City what he thinks about the match with Perez and Lawson. The New Zealand driver of Red Bull’s sister team VCARB was to blame, according to Marko. The Austrian advisor continues with his story about Perez: “A duel with Lawson followed in which both drivers were too impetuous, Liam even gave his opponent the finger, for which he later apologized, and we accepted that.”
