The game started off entertaining, with baskets on both sides and prominence especially for Lance Jones for Tizona, with 2 triples, and Fred Stutz, with the first 5 points. After the first minutes of greater equality, with a tight 10-11, the visiting team achieved a partial 7-0 with which Salva Camps had to call the first timeout 3:35 before the end of the first quarter (10- 18). The Azulones responded, returning the partial to be just 1 goal behind. After a steal and layup by Jones, Frederic Castelló had to stop it with 1:18 remaining with the tie at 20. The quarter could not have ended better for Tizona, as Jordi Rodríguez scored 3 consecutive triples to certify a final quarter of 19-4 and thus close the period with 29-22 on the scoreboard.
After a low-scoring but even start, Amics Castelló began to force local errors to reduce the difference, leaving only 2 behind after Ngom’s free kicks (33-31). The dynamic was cut with a bomb by Rodrigo Seoane and a long shot by Abdou Thiam. Furthermore, an unsportsmanlike act that Roig committed on Totte Alonso turned into 2 free throws plus two consecutive baskets by Jacobo Díaz, so that the score read 46-37. At that moment, Castelló called a timeout again at 3:24 before halftime. Tizona continued in good form, maintaining the advantage with the points of Jaume Lobo and Ramón
Vilà, thus facing the final minute with a +12 (55-43). The first half closed with a mid-range shot from Jones for the final 57-43.
The second half did not start in a positive way for the Burgos interests, and apart from Amics Castelló they cut the difference, after just 1 minute of play, Abdou Thiam had to retire to the locker room after a hard fall and suffer a knee mishap. Tizona regained confidence, mitigating the visitors’ baskets, and was within 9 points with 2 free throws from Rodríguez. Although Faner’s actions allowed Castelló to continue getting closer, two baskets in a row by Vilà, and a great collective counterattack completed by Seoane, surpassed the 10-point barrier for the locals and forced Castelló to ask
timeout with 4:40 left in the third (70-59). The break had its effect on the Castellón team, who, helped by continuous trips to the line, cut the score to 70-69. After several moments without scoring, a recovered Thiam scored a mid-range shot.
Although Seoane scored a good triple in transition, Minlend answered for the visitors, closing the third quarter with 75-74.
Castelló started taking the lead for the first time in many minutes, again thanks to Minlend, but the triples by Caio Pacheco and Jordi, plus Lobo’s layup, returned Tizona to the lead and forced Castelló to stop the game again
5:36 left (85-78). The visitors made another growth spurt to stay just 1 point behind with a mid-range shot from Adala Moto. Tizona regained the 4-point advantage with a triple from Jordi, but then an exchange of baskets began in which the difference always oscillated between 2 and 4 points.
Castelló came close with a free kick from Okouo, but Jones had the opportunity to give Tizona a 3-point lead. However, the American guard missed one of the two shots, allowing the visitors to equalize with a layup from Tate with 4 seconds remaining. The Burgos team had the ball to win, but Rodríguez made a mistake on the throw-in, and then it was Castelló who was able to close it out. In a great defensive action, Pacheco blocked Tate to send the game to overtime.
Good start to Tizona’s overtime, with Jones’ layup and Pacheco’s 3 free throws to make it 2 baskets difference (98-93). However, Stutz, Okouo and Tate put Castelló ahead (98-100). The Burgos team regained the lead with Jordi’s triple and 2 free throws from Lobo and, with 1:18 left, the score was 103-100.
Minlend cut back, but a good steal led to a tap by Thiam to restore the locals’ 3-point advantage with 37 seconds left (105-102). Castelló, far from giving up, added 2 again through Tate, consuming just 8 seconds of the clock. With a lead of 1 for Tizona, Pacheco tried to close it, but failed in his shot and in the last play, Faner found Minlend free to score the final triple and make it 105-107 on the El Plantío scoreboard.
The MVP of the Ureta Tizona Burgos Group was Jordi Rodríguez, with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 foul received for a PIR of 19. On the part of Amics Castelló, the most outstanding was Fred Stutz, with a PIR of 27 (22 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 7 fouls received).
