[BDMNTN-XL 2024] ‘Lee Yong-dae’s team’ saved the Rockets’ hopes for the finals… Gained 6 points against Lightning
[스포티비뉴스=김건일 기자] In the ‘BDMNTN-XL 2024’ preliminaries held in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 2nd (Korean time), the Rockets, to which Lee Yong-dae plays, accumulated 6 points against the Lightning.

The Rockets, who had only 6 points in the last game, added 6 points today to a total of 12 points, keeping their hopes of advancing to the finals alive.

On the other hand, Lightning, who entered the game with 6 points, only added 3 points, remaining at 9 points in total. The possibility of advancing to the finals virtually disappeared.

In the men’s doubles team of So and Watanabe, Lightning defeated the team of Chen and Setiawan with a set score of 3-1 and earned one point.

In the women’s doubles match, where two points were at stake, the Rockets laughed. The group of Misachi and Che defeated the group of Ponapa and Intanon with a set score of 3-1. The Rockets, who also won the women’s singles, accumulated 9 points.

In the men’s singles, the Lightning balanced the game score at 2-2 again. Viktor Axelsen, who had won the previous day’s game, defeated Kodai Naraoka in a close showdown match, giving the Lightning two points.

The Rockets took the three points that were at stake in the final 3-on-3 game. They defeated Lightning with a set score of 3-1.

Lee Yong-dae did not play in the game that day.

This competition, which started on Thursday, the 31st of last month, will have a three-day preliminary round, and then the top two teams will compete in the finals on November 3rd. The total prize money is $1 million.

A total of 7 people, 4 men and 3 women, form a team. In addition, one game will be played as men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles, 3 vs 3, and will be played in a 10-minute time format per set rather than the 21-point 3-set format of existing badminton competitions.

A 3 vs 3 match is worth 3 points, and each team is assigned a 2-point game. The remaining two games are automatically worth 1 point. The team with the highest set score earns points for each event, and the team with the highest total points for each event wins the game. After the preliminary round, the teams with 1st and 2nd place will advance to the finals.

In this tournament, you can meet Korean badminton icon Lee Yong-dae and Seo Seung-jae (Samsung Life Insurance), who also won the Badminton World Federation (BWF) 2023 Male Player of the Year Award.
