Donald Trump embodies wealth in Kentucky, says 22-year-old baseball player

A 22-year-old Quebecer exiled to Kentucky to play baseball notes that the economy is strongly tipping the scales in this Trumpist bastion.

“Trump may say some stupid things during the debates on television, but his appointment seems to make a lot of economic sense in the eyes of the population here,” notes Raphaël Pelletier, not at all offended by this reality.

After three years in Kansas, the young man from Mascouche is now in Kentucky as a baseball catcher. He also dreams of making a career in this sport, considered the national pastime of Americans.

“My goal remains to play among the pros and I tell myself that there are always good things that happen to those who put in the hard work,” explained Raphaël Pelletier, which is as true in sport as in other areas, such as politics.

Both in Kentucky and in Kansas, Donald Trump and the Republicans are favorites to win and, according to the young 22-year-old player, it is precisely the economic factor (tax cuts and purchasing power) which encourages the population of these two states to vote for the businessman turned politician.

The Quebecer, who has spent a good part of his life in the United States since his late adolescence, hears it regularly in the streets of Lexington: average household income would be on the rise with Trump in the White House.

A wind of sympathy

Still according to the young man, the partial immunity granted by the Supreme Court in the criminal proceedings against Trump also leans in his favor.

“It attracted sympathy towards him,” believes Raphaël Pelletier.

In 2020, Trump won his election in Kentucky by a margin of 26%.
