Battle review
1st Q. Hodai tries to break Waseda by using screens. #75 Yanagida puts a screen on #7 Motoyama, and #75 Yanagida dives into the paint area. Although his jump shot missed, #7 Motoyama got the rebound and hit a floater to take the lead. In the next attack, #75 Yanagida scored with a rhythmic pick-and-roll. Things seemed to be going well, but after that the scoring stopped, and with 5 minutes left and the score at 4-11, Hodai elected to take a timeout. After the timeout, #8 Ishida narrowed the gap with three consecutive 3-pointers. Then, rookie #24 Miwa, who came on as a substitute, cut into the paint with a drive and kicked out to #7 Motoyama. They made a 3-pointer and succeeded in reversing the game, ending the first quarter with a score of 18-16.
2nd Q. #7 Motoyama calmly made all three free throws, followed by #21 Fujihei, who ignored the opponent’s defense and took a shot from under the goal. Furthermore, #18 Yaesawa received a pass from #14 Sato and took a shot, accumulating points. While their brilliant cooperative play shined, Waseda University, trying to catch up, contained Hodai’s attack with fierce defense and gradually narrowed the point difference. In the final stages, Waseda University allowed a comeback, but #7 Motoyama made a three-point shot to narrow the gap, and Hodai ended the first half with a one-point lead.
