Feyenoord coach Brian Priske announced a day before the match against AZ that goalkeeper Justin Bijlow will be in the starting lineup on Saturday evening.

The goalkeeper had lost his familiar place between the posts under the new trainer to <a href="https://www.archysport.com/2022/03/rider-shows-up-in-amsterdam-ajax-club-management-will-make-a-decision-on-friday/" title=""Rider shows up in Amsterdam: Ajax club management will make a decision on Friday"”>Timon Wellenreuther, but will get a new chance to prove himself. “We have confidence in him. He is a good goalkeeper.”

“It was not an easy decision, and it was not made on the basis of one match,” says the Danish Feyenoord coach. “Justin trained hard and Timon was unhappy a few times in matches. We came to the conclusion that this was the right time for the change.”

Errors Wellenreuther

Wellenreuther did not always make a stable impression under the bar at Feyenoord in the first part of the season, with two big mistakes against Ajax (0-2) as the final low point.

However, that does not mean that Bijlow will now be the permanent number one under the bar at Feyenoord. “We continue to evaluate and Timon is still a very good goalkeeper.”

Injuries

While Priske still has a choice between different players in goal, the selection in other positions is becoming somewhat thinned out. For example, the club from Rotterdam is struggling with a striker problem. Santiago Gimenez is still injured and Ayase Ueda also dropped out against Ajax.

“As for Ueda, we don’t know yet how long he will be out. He will undergo some checks and scans today. These will give us more clarity.” Julián Carranza replaced the dropped Ueda against Ajax, who also missed the match against FC Utrecht and was then also replaced by the (scoring) Argentinian.

Furthermore, Priske still cannot count on Jeremy Lotomba (“probably back for the Champions League match against Red Bull Salzburg”) and Calvin Stengs (“can train well again”).
