SP GP Classification Postponed to Sunday Due to Rain in Interlagos: What Fans Need to Know

The São Paulo GP classification will no longer take place this Saturday (2). After the strong storm that hit Interlagos this afternoon, F1 opted to postpone the timing until Sunday morning.

The start of the session was scheduled to begin at 3 pm Brasília time. However, due to the incessant and large volume of rain, the start had to be postponed several times.

The safety car was constantly on the track to check the track conditions. It turns out that the race direction always ended up delaying the race for another 15 minutes.

So, after more than 1h30 delay in the original start of qualifying for the São Paulo GP, F1 opted to decide the grid for the morning of Sunday, November 3rd.

Read the FIA statement in full:

“Qualification for the São Paulo Grand Prix is postponed.

“The decision was made due to the lack of visibility caused by the level of rain we have experienced in the last few hours. There is a lot of standing water in parts of the circuit, which makes conditions unsafe.

“As much as we all want to see competition on the track, the safety of drivers, team members, volunteers, officials and spectators is our top priority.

“A decision on the qualifying start time tomorrow morning will be made as soon as possible.”
