Inside the Mind of a Champion: What Frustrates Europe’s Top Athlete the Most

Svoboda, who won the 60-meter sprint at the 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships, spoke to the Polish publication “Fakt” about the emotions she experienced in the past season. She won silver at both the World Indoor Championships in the 60-meter race and the European Championships in the 100-meter distance, so she considers the season a success.

However, she did not qualify for the final in the 100-meter sprint at the Paris Olympics and finished ninth. During the whole season, she was full of emotions.

When a reporter asked Svoboda what tires her the most, one of Poland’s biggest athletics stars replied: “People. Period. Not friends, but people in general.”

She is not happy that she is so popular, which interferes with the athlete’s daily life. “I really like peace. I understand that people talk about me in competitions, because that’s when I’m in my element. But when I walk down the street, I’m just me. We’re not just athletes, but also simple people living our lives. I want, for people to understand,” she said.

Currently, 27-year-old Svoboda is not only receiving attention on the street, but also on the Internet. “I’d rather not talk about the messages I get on social media. They come from all over the world. Sometimes I just want to delete myself from Instagram. I haven’t because it’s cool to be able to send messages, but there are some that should be blocked for the Internet.”

In the off-season, she continues to train and gradually prepares for the new season.

“I think the season won’t be easy, but it’s nice that the indoor season will only start in February,” said Svoboda.

She has more than 1.1 million followers on Instagram.
