2nd League: Draw against Nuremberg – HSV squandered the win and missed out on promotion

1. FC Nürnberg dominates Hamburger SV for long stretches in their stadium. Miroslav Klose’s team despaired of the strong goalkeeper Heuer Fernandes for a long time. Meanwhile, Magdeburg lost a 2-0 win against Kaiserslautern.

1. FC Nürnberg, which is still on the rise under coach Miroslav Klose, also won a point against eternal promotion contenders Hamburger SV. In the 1:1 (0:1) duel between the traditional clubs in the 2nd Bundesliga, it was mainly the strong goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes who largely paralyzed the Nuremberg goal factory and saved the hosts from their first home defeat.

Daniel Elfadli gave the hosts the lead in front of 57,000 spectators after a counterattack in the 15th minute. Mahir Emreli equalized with the umpteenth “Club” chance after 63 minutes. Marco Richter almost provided HSV’s lucky punch with a shot against the post (83′). The Hamburg team missed out on a promotion place and are still two points ahead of the “Club”, which played confidently with 15 goals after three wins.

The roles in the Volksparkstadion were quickly assigned. HSV took a counter-attacking stance that was successful early on. After winning the ball in his own half, Adam Karabec drove the quick counterattack and fed Elfadli, who finished successfully in the penalty area.

Unfortunately for HSV, Ludovit Reis had to be replaced after 31 minutes. It was great luck for the hosts that goalkeeper Heuer Fernandes made great saves on several occasions. In the 3rd minute he prevented Mahir Emreli from making it 0-1. And in injury time of the first half he saved twice against Nuremberg’s young attacker Stefanos Tzimas.

The duel between Heuer Fernandes and the “Club” continued happily after the break. The 31-year-old goalkeeper made quick saves with reflexes against Tzimas, Julian Justvan and Emreli twice. On Emreli’s third attempt, Heuer Fernandes was powerless. The former world-class striker Klose could celebrate, his team had finally rewarded themselves.

Magdeburg lost 2-0

Despite the majority, 1. FC Kaiserslautern missed out on their third win in a row. The Palatinate team only managed a 2:2 (1:2) draw against 1. FC Magdeburg and remain in tenth place in the middle of the table with 16 points. The Magdeburgers, who only finished the game with nine after Falko Michel (36th minute) and Martijn Kaars (90th + 3) were sent off, are seventh with 17 points.

In front of 45,104 spectators in the Fritz Walter Stadium, the guests got off to a furious start and took an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Samuel Loric (11th) and ex-Lauter player Philipp Hercher (13th). Boris Tomiak (36th) with a penalty kick and goalscorer Ragnar Ache (68th) at least saved FCK from a draw.

After the yellow-red card for Michel, Kaiserslautern dominated the game in the majority, but was only rarely able to pose a threat against Magdeburg who fought with self-sacrifice. FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann showed his skills on the few occasions. So in the end the points remained divided.

Paderborn jumps to second place

SC Paderborn missed the jump to the top of the table. At the end of the eleventh matchday, coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team couldn’t get beyond a meager 0-0 draw against penultimate Eintracht Braunschweig and also lost full-back Marcel Hoffmeier due to an assault with a red card (72nd minute).

With the fifth draw of the season, Paderborn overtook Fortuna Düsseldorf and is now second, but is two points behind the new leaders Hannover 96. Braunschweig is second to last in the table with nine points.

Especially after the sending off, a victory would have been possible for coach Daniel Scherning’s visiting team. In the long disappointing game, Braunschweig had a number of promising opportunities, especially at the end of the game, but ten Paderborn players defended them skillfully and with commitment.
