Košice’s Dominant Play: Coaches React as Trenčín Holds on for a Clean Sheet

KOŠICE. Almost five thousand spectators were curious about the improving football players from Košice and believed that they would see not only a good performance, but also a victory over Trenčín. In the end, they did not leave the Košice football arena completely satisfied.

Although they saw a surprisingly dominant performance from Košice, who really warmed up Trenčani in their 16, especially in the second half, but they did not ignite the goal fire and for the first time since the arrival of coach Roman Skuhravý, they failed to score a single goal.

And so the guests didn’t score even in the third period at the new Košice stadium, and the points were shared after a goalless draw.

“The whole match was carried out in a fashion of great desire, which sometimes takes away your ease. Especially in the second half, in which we were under a lot of pressure, kept the ball, got into dangerous areas with vertical passes.

But either we didn’t have a well-occupied box, or we didn’t execute the pass well. But of course that’s football. I hate the result zero zero. But today we could have scored those goals and it sometimes happens that we didn’t score them,” coach Skuhravý sighed after the match.

They did not find peace and balance and neither happiness

He followed up on the words of his charges, who were closest to the goal, Lukáš Fabiš and Michal Fašek.

“A little bit of calmness, a little balance and precision and maybe some luck in the final phase and we would have won today. That’s how it ended zero zero. From our point of view, it was an excellent match and the only thing he lacked were goals and converting some of the chances. We didn’t let Trenčín do almost anything.

But the performance we gave today speaks quite strongly and if we continue like this, we will go up and more victories will come,” believes Fabiš.

In the middle of the first half, after a quick counter-attack, he found himself in a scoring chance, but his cross shot was only aimed at the Trenčín goalkeeper Matúš Sláviček.

The director of the Košice offensive, Michal Faško, admitted that there were several poorly resolved situations on his part as well. “In some I could have shot, but I was passing.

Especially in the second half, we had a lot of chances there and maybe we would have calmed down after the first goal and it would have broken,” stated Faško.

Skuhravý also takes a point

Faško was close to a goal, which would probably be given the title of Trenčín’s own, in the middle of the second half.

His cross from the corner, turned with his left foot into the goal, was slightly raised by the almost two-meter defending Trenčín striker Chinonso Emeka, and the guests were saved from a goal by the post.

“It was missed by centimeters, but I’m especially sorry for the chance at the end, when it rebounded well and I only hit the leg of their goalkeeper. We have a point, at least that,” added Faško, who only hit goalkeeper Sláviček in a scoring chance five minutes before the end.

Coach Skuhravý also takes a point: “We know where we are and that’s why I also take a point, because I dare to say that roughly four teams are clear and the remaining eight will fight for two places in the top six. So the cards are dealt and every point counts.”

Galad was not happy with either the point or football

Trenčín captain Damián Bariš admitted that they were a weaker team.

“The opponent was really better, especially in the second half they pushed us. Our pressing did not work at all, they moved the ball quickly and had many chances.

But, paradoxically, we didn’t get a goal today, which we haven’t been able to do since the arrival of coach Galád, although he is still pushing for it. We take a point, I’m not saying it’s deserved, but that’s football,” he said after the match.

Although his team did not score for the first time since his arrival, Trenčín coach Ivan Galád was not very happy after the match and admitted that Košice deserved to win:

“I wasn’t happy with football today, because especially in the second half we didn’t show what Trenčín is known for. The home team was better, more football-oriented and deserved to win.

We have to analyze it very responsibly. Sometimes you feel like you’re not happy about a point, and I’m not happy today. We defended the whole second half. Both Trenčín’s philosophy and mine are different, I simply don’t want us to just defend the zero zero result.”
