America vs. Deportivo Cali: summary and goals of the game on date 16 of Liga Betplay 2024-II | Colombian Soccer | Betplay League

Sports Cali defeated 0-1 Cali America in the Valle del Cauca classic that was played this Sunday at the Pascual Guerrero stadium, a duel that brings Azucarero closer to permanence since the rest of their rivals tied or lost. The only goal of the game was from José Caldera.

In the first half, América had its first approach in a partnership between Cristian Barrios and Rodrigo Holgado and there the Argentine entered the area and took a three-fingered shot that barely left the side of Alejandro Rodríguez’s goal.

Towards the 23rd minute, the first dangerous action for Cali came in a good association by Azucarero that Jarlan Barrera finished with a left-footed shot that went over Jorge Soto’s goal. In the 40th minute, Jarlan gave it to Gian Franco Cabezas in a great way and he took a shot inside the area that Soto saved.

Already in the 44th minute, Cali came out on a counterattack with Cabezas and then passed it to Jarlan who accompanied the attack from the left and there attempted a lofted shot that barely went over Soto’s goal.

In the second half, Deportivo Cali continued its pressure on América and once again had another important chance to go ahead on the scoreboard with Jarlan who took a powerful left foot shot that Soto sent to the corner kick.

In the 55th minute, América responded with a shocking play. Duván Vergara crossed it into the area to Cristian Barrios from the left and the winger invented a bicycle kick that hit the post of Rodríguez’s goal. Eight minutes later, Cali took the lead on the scoreboard with José Caldera who connected well with Jarlan’s cross from the right and sent it to save before Soto left.

After the sugar goal, América almost tied with Vergara, who took two players and took a shot from the edge of the area that barely passed one side of Rodríguez’s goal.

At 70, Andrey Estupiñán almost increased the score for Cali. Cabezas crossed it to the extreme and there he finished with a back heel that hit the far post for Soto. Five minutes later, the visit almost made it 0-2. Jarlan recovered the ball in his own field and there he gave it to Estupiñán who scored uncomfortably before Soto’s departure.

America would have a couple more chances to seek a tie, but in the end they suffered their third defeat in the tournament. The scarlet team is first with 33 units while Cali is 16th with 17 units. On the next date, América faces Pasto while Cali will play against Jaguares.
