In addition to the deceased defender, goalkeeper Juan Chuca is in critical condition due to severe burns. The health condition of the other players affected by the lightning is still unknown.
The incident occurred around 4:00 pm local time (21:00 GMT) at the Coto Coto Stadium in Chicha, located in Huancayo province, where local teams, Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chuca, were playing under stormy conditions.
A video clip showed the moment lightning struck, causing several players to collapse simultaneously on the field.
