Guillermo Arenas triumphs without a medal
As a member of the Spanish team, Guillermo Arenas competed in Heraklion (Greece) in the junior category.
During his participation, Arenas demonstrated his very high competitive level that was diminished by excessive intensity. In the two fights played, Guillermo Arenas experienced identical situations. After winning in both fights, penalties from the judges in the final moments deprived him of the victory.
The defeat against the Italian Pietro Bologna and the subsequent defeat against the German Constantin Kochan placed him in seventeenth position. In the assessment made after finishing his participation, Arenas highlighted that «The experience was very good. I am very happy with my performance. Despite the defeats, I did not see any superior rival. I lost a few seconds before the end of each fight. “This experience will help me improve in future competitions.”
Felipe Iglesias, world runner-up and coach at the Marbel Judo Club, stressed that «Guillermo showed a very good level despite the result, being eliminated due to small details that needed to be corrected. Losing in this way fits very well with his character, always intense and ambitious..
