Anita Commission X: Debunking Myths of Poverty in Indonesian Athlete Naturalization

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Member of Commission X DPR RI Anita Jacoba Gah criticized the naturalization project Indonesian National Team which was carried out by PSSI.

This criticism was issued by Anita Jacoba Gah from the Democratic Party faction at the DPR RI Commission X working meeting regarding the naturalization application for Kevin Diks, Noa Leatomu and Estella Loupatty, Monday (4/11).

Anita can’t stop thinking about PSSI who keeps asking for naturalization applications for Indonesian national team players. According to him, Indonesia does not lack football talent.

“Hopefully this is the final step, because we are not poor in athletes. Why keep taking them from outside. We are from NTT, a disadvantaged area but a warehouse for athletes. We have a lot of athletes in Indonesia,” said Anita, Monday (4/11).

“My question is why do we have to take them from outside, not just once, but several times. How long do we want to take athletes from outside?” said Anita added.

According to Anita, PSSI and the Indonesian National Team cannot continue to naturalize players. He is worried that PSSI’s efforts in naturalization will not have a sustainable impact.

“What are the efforts of coaches in Indonesia? If necessary, coaches from outside are brought to Indonesia. The experience of taking athletes from outside has not been successful either,” said Anita.

“Are these three athletes, we hope they will give their best for Indonesia. But what if this fails again? Let’s not repeat it again, calling from outside but not being proud,” continued Anita.

Anita also emphasized that PSSI must carry out athlete development, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports as the coach.

“I am sure that Indonesian athletes have strong physiques, as long as how they are trained, how the Ministry of Youth and Sports educates them. If we can make Indonesia proud with other children, why should we take them from outside,” said Anita.
