Badminton news: 1st VERMES Cup – youth tournament in Holzkirchen | TuS Holzkirchen 1888 eV

On Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, the first VERMES Cup in badminton from TuS Holzkirchen took place in the Holzkirchner high school hall.

VERMES Cup because the Vermes company donated a completely new set of jerseys to the youth players and also the trophies for this tournament. A big thank you to the youth coaches Veronika Stanke and Stephan Lenz. A thank you also goes to Mario Fließ, who was there as a representative of VERMES and started the tournament with a few warm words.

The following clubs were guests: TSV Haar, FC Halfing, TV 1868 Burghausen, SF Gmund-Dürnbach, TSV Unterföhring, SV Lohof, TSV Neuhausen-Nymphenburg and TSV Schäftlarn.

The tournament started at 9:30 a.m. with the doubles discipline. The players competed in the U13, U15, U17 and U19 age groups. After many exciting and sometimes very close and even games, the first winners were already decided at lunchtime.

In the U19 age group, two Holzkirchner teams were able to secure a podium place. Lucas Lenz and Maurice Morawe defeated their club colleagues Jonas Tomke and Victor Dollriess in the final. Tom Knape and Julian Lachemeier from TSV Haar came in third place ahead of players Kamil Filar and Eron Kuo from TV 1868 Burghausen.

In the U17 age group, Sebastian Dentinger and Timothy Rösler took third place after the strong players from Lohof and Haar.

The two age groups U13 and U15 had to be combined spontaneously because some cancellations due to illness occurred shortly before the tournament. However, to be fair, the results were evaluated separately. In the U15, Elly Li and Lucas Steiner from TSV Unterföhring came ahead of Yoann Duve and Lukas Wick from TuS Holzkirchen and in the U13, Aurelia Dietl, also from TuS Holzkirchen, with her doubles partner Alexandra S. from Halfing ahead of Hana Delic and Alexandra Szentgyörgyi from Halfing.

After a short lunch break, in which both the players and the numerous spectators were able to fortify themselves at the varied buffet, the individual discipline continued.

At this point, the two coaches Veronika Stanke and Stephan Lenz would like to thank everyone involved who made it possible to set up such a tournament in the first place. First of all, thanks go to the parents of the players, who cheered and cheered in the stands all day long, creating a great atmosphere in the hall. A huge thank you goes to Alexander Lenz, who managed the tournament program and ensured that the tournament ran smoothly, as well as to Laura and Anna, who actively supported the organization throughout the day and of course to all the hard-working cake bakers and helpers Sales stand.

The entire department would also like to thank the Wick family, owners of Edeka Taufkirchen, who supported them with a generous donation of food.

The singles games once again really challenged all the players. Compared to doubles, singles is more technically and physically demanding and requires full concentration.

In the U19 age group, Lucas Lenz from TuS Holzkirchen achieved a double victory. Jonas Tomke achieved a very confident fourth place after Luka Nerovcic from TSV Neuhausen-Nymphenburg and Tom Knape from TSV Haar.

In the U17 girls, Elly Li from Unterföhring came ahead of Hannah Externbrink and Lucy Rudolph from TuS Holzkirchen.

And a TuS player was also on the podium in the U13. Lukas Wick deservedly came second after Paul Willhöft from TSV Schäftlarn.

All players can be very proud of their performance. What is particularly important, however, is the enjoyment of sport and fair cooperation. The two coaches have received extremely positive feedback from all sides, so another tournament is firmly planned for 2025.

In addition to the game, Rene Sabatke was there with his Victor brand badminton stand. The players were able to get new rackets, shoes and grips and one or two bats were also re-strung. Thanks to the great service, we’ll be back next year!

It was also nice to see that the sport of badminton is generating interest across the entire club beyond the department. Both the first board of TuS Holzkirchen Manfred Hantl and the managing director Christiane Utz were there to watch the action-packed and fast sport.
