SANTIAGO. – The Santiago Baseball Association (ABESA) celebrated last Sunday an exciting day of the LXV Superior Baseball Tournament, dedicated to the mayor of Santiago, Mr. Ulises Rodríguez and where the Santiago Mayor’s Cup is played.
The matches were played in the Cienfuegos, Tamboril and Virgilio Veras stadiums, in Navarrete. They stood out for the high competitive level of the teams, with Coquero Baseball Academy, Tamboril and Linda dominating their matches and securing their position in the tournament.
COQUEROS WIN IN CIENFUEGOS
At the Ambiorix Rodríguez Stadium in Cienfuegos, Coquero Baseball Academy showed its power by winning twice against the Tranquilo Tavárez School.
In the first game, Coquero took the 7-3 victory thanks to a brilliant performance by pitcher Bryan Reynoso, who pitched eight scoreless innings, giving up only two hits and accumulating 15 strikeouts.
In the second game, Coquero repeated the feat with a score of 7-1, with Edwin Contreras being the winning pitcher. Brailin Rodríguez, who hit a double and two singles, and Keiver Corona, with two doubles, stood out at bat.
TAMBORIL WINS AT HOME
For its part, the Arecio Martínez Stadium in Tamboril witnessed the dominance of the local team, which remained undefeated after beating the Unión Deportiva de Cienfuegos in two tight matches.
In the first game, Tamboril won 5-4 with an outstanding performance by Jean Carlos Henríquez, who pitched all nine innings, allowing only four runs and striking out nine batters.
In the second game, Tamboril secured its victory with a score of 2-1, with Albert Peña as the winning pitcher.
LINDA WINS IN NAVARRETE
Meanwhile, at the Virgilio Veras Stadium, Linda’s team was also dominant against Mercado Futuras Estrellas, taking both games of the series.
In the first game, Linda won 1-0 thanks to an effective relief from Winston Quintero, who did not allow runs in an inning of work.
In the second matchup, Linda outscored her rival 4-2, with Yoelfry Rodríguez pitching seven innings, allowing just two runs and recording ten strikeouts.
With these results, the standings place Tamboril in first place with a perfect record of 6-0, closely followed by Linda, with 5-1. Coquero Baseball Academy occupies third position with 3-2, while Unión Deportiva de Cienfuegos and Mercado Futuras Estrellas complete the classification with 2-3 and 1-5, while Escuela Tranquilo Tavárez is 0-6 in the tournament.
