Twelve athletes will take part in the three-day tournament in Japan
Wheelchair Basketball Canada has announced the Next Generation men’s roster and schedule for the Kitakyushu Champions Cup, which will take place November 7-9 in Kitakyushu, Japan.
Four members of Team Canada‘s 2022 U23 World Championship roster, Collin Lalonde, Josh Brown, Kyrell Sopotyk and Matthew Wilton, will compete at the three-day tournament in Kitakyushu.
“I am happy to announce the next generation that will compete in the Kitakyushu Champions Cup,” said team coach Darrell Nordell. “The selected group includes some of the best athletes in our country. I couldn’t be happier to work with this group of athletes as we prepare for upcoming competitions. »
Canada will play matches against Japan and Spain over three days at the Kitakyushu Municipal Gymnasium in Kitakyushu, Japan.
“This tournament will allow us to evaluate the athletes in our pool for the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Paralympic Games,” said Jeff Dunbrack, Director, High Performance, Wheelchair Basketball Canada. “I look forward to seeing how our next generation athletes progress as we begin a new four-year cycle, and the Kitakyushu tournament will be the first opportunity to assess their development as we prepare for Los Angeles.” »
