One Day Academy Camp: the women’s regional selection on the pitch in the new PalaSport in Genoa

During the day the One Day Camp of the Academy Project of FIPdestined for the Regional Women’s Selection of the 2010/11 years, organized in the brand new parquet of the PalaSport of Genoaready to host the Women’s National Team on Thursday.

On the pitch Giovanni Lucchesi and Roberto Brunamonti, respectively SNF Women’s Technical Manager and Academy Project Manager, assisted by the women’s territorial technical staff.

These are the words of Giovanni Lucchesi, SNF Women’s Technical Manager: «This training day took place in a fantastic location. The new PalaSport is truly a jewel and represents added value for the city, for Ligurian basketball, and for the return of the Italian Women’s National Team to Genoa. The training was fruitful. To say that I found an extraordinarily competitive level would not be correct but I can absolutely say that I noticed greater consistency and competitiveness compared to last year. I believe that the only “medicine” is to continue working and insisting, as there are important realities that support women’s basketball. It is necessary
a small, big cultural leap to achieve equal dignity with men’s basketball. Liguria has the potential to provide continuity in the production of talents like those of the past, and in this very land we will see Arianna Arado make her debut with the blue shirt, a sign of what can and must be done. In our tour of Liguria we also have a visit to the Ponente, where in the past I had a wonderful experience with the Under 16s.”

These are the words of Roberto BrunamontiHead of the Academy Project: «The location is beautiful and represents an important point for Genoa, which needed a structure dedicated to basketball and basketball. Inaugurating it today with the 2010-2011 girls from all over the region is significant, as it will be an important memory for them, being the first to tread this parquet. The emotion of this event is combined with the satisfaction of seeing improvements compared to last year. The growth of women’s basketball is critical, and we are seeing positive signs in several regions. As a Federation, we are doing our best to promote basketball in
all its forms, focusing on the new generations and the youngest, because basketball is basketball, without gender distinctions.”
