Marta Librero is a lifelong borwomanand archery has gone from being a curiosity to a passion that has made her a prominent figure in the Bormujos Arqueros Sports Club “It all started when my coach, Miguel, invited me to try my luck with the bow,” says Marta. It was at a championship in Andalusia, where she initially went just to lend a hand, that she had her first contact with the sport. “I looked at the competitors and thought, ‘I want to do that.‘” he recalls with a smile. Thus, at just 16 years old, he began his career in a discipline that is no longer just a hobby, but an essential part of his life.
Those who come to the club always find support from the other archers, in material, knowledge or advice. Here, in addition to competing, we make family
Now 21 years old, Marta has come a long way and has accumulated experience at the regional and national level. She started in the standard category, but her progress soon took her to the Olympic category. “It was a complicated start, especially with the pandemic, when I trained from home as best I could,” he says. However, upon returning to competitions, he demonstrated his level: he obtained the cFourth place in the Andalusian championship, an achievement that marked his commitment to archery.
The current season promises new challenges for Marta. The Andalusian league recently started and plans to participate in regional and national championships until February, with the aim of improving its position in the national ranking. At the same time, as part of the Andalusian team, his position in the ranking will allow him to compete in the Spanish championships. This commitment does not separate her from her academic training: she studies a higher degree in Early Childhood Education, because she knows that “living off the bow is almost impossible in Spain“But his goal is to transmit his passion to new talents, training young people at the club’s school and collaborating in sports promotion activities.
As part of the club’s board of directors, Marta encourages the residents of Bormujos to come to the shooting range and learn about the sport, where in addition to technique, friendships are forged.. Marta, who helps and trains her colleagues every day, emphasizes that archery is also a way to free the mind. “When I have the bow in my hands, there is only the bow,” he says, describing how this practice allows him to concentrate and disconnect.
For Marta, archery is not only a sport, but a family. “Those who come to the club always find support from the other goalkeepers, in material, knowledge or advice. Here, in addition to competing, we make family,” he says. Marta invites Bormujeres to learn about this sport and join the club to enjoy an activity that, beyond precision, teaches values of respect and camaraderie.
