Sports Minister Nancy Faeser honored 174 athletes.

174 congratulations! Together with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Sports Minister Nancy Faeser today presented Germany’s successful top athletes with the Silver Laurel Leaf. At the ceremony in Berlin, around 150 of them received the highest state top sports award. Some were not there in person because of important sporting events.
The following were awarded:
104 Olympic
55 paralympic
as well as 15 Deaflympic athletes.
Five athletes from the Federal Police were among those honored. They successfully hunted for precious metals in the disciplines of judo, track cycling, archery, canoe racing and para track cycling.
“I take my hat off to the great performances they showed in the competitions. But also in the endless hours of training that made their successes possible.”
emphasized the minister. She also said: “As sports minister, it is my job to make such outstanding successes possible in the future. The new sports funding law, which I will bring to the cabinet this week, will also be crucial to this. It will make top-level sports funding more transparent, digital and unbureaucratic.
