Visibly shocked Giulia Gwinn Her tooth in her hand, stared at it in disbelief – and presented the blood-smeared part of her teeth, still lying on the floor, to the sinner: her national team colleague Sophia Kleinherne Seconds earlier, the reigning German captain had apparently unintentionally knocked out the tooth of the reigning German captain with her elbow during a duel in the top Bundesliga game between Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt (1-1).
The Bayern star player hardly noticed the apologetic pats on the back from Eintracht defender Kleinherne. In the 83rd minute, Gwinn was sent off. The 25-year-old, who has initially taken over the captaincy of the national team from the resigned Alexandra Popp, appeared slightly dazed and repeatedly held her hand over her mouth.
Nevertheless, Gwinn will have noticed that her team has regained the lead in the table despite the rather disappointing result. Pernille Harder (34th) had given Munich the lead. Nicole Anyomi (68th) ensured the final score in dense fog. For Bayern, Georgia Stanway (4th) missed a hand penalty early on.
Bayern pushes Wolfsburg out of the top spot
With now 19 points to their name, the defending champions pushed rivals VfL Wolfsburg, who had the same number of points, back from the top after one day. Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen (both 17 points) remain within striking distance. Frankfurt’s coach Niko Arnautis (“We can live with the point very well”) is happy about the close race at the top.
“It’s incredibly nice that the league is getting closer together – also for the product. I think we all get something out of it. It’s always nice when there’s tension,” said the coach: “It’s also because The clubs are becoming more and more professional. The fact is that we naturally want to develop further and be part of the fact that it’s not always just Bayern versus Wolfsburg.” (sid/edited by jum)
