‘Sky Sports’ reports that Manchester United players want Ruud van Nistelrooy to remain at the club after the arrival of Rúben Amorim. The Dutchman, a former Red Devils player, arrived at Old Trafford through Erik ten Hag and temporarily assumed leadership of the team after his compatriot’s dismissal. According to the British television channel, the players want Van Nistelrooy to be a link with the new coach, as they appreciate the way the former football player communicates with the group. Amorim has not yet commented on the issue, but it is known that he plans to take with him some of the men he trusts with whom he worked in recent years at Sporting.
Jamie Carragher, former Liverpool defender and now television commentator, advises Amorim not to listen to the team’s requests. “I don’t think the players have to say anything about it. Especially after the performances they’ve had in recent years. If it was a highly successful team, if there was great respect for the players in the dressing room and their opinion was important, it would be something to be taken into consideration. You don’t allow players to start calling cards, let alone Manchester United players.”
However, Carragher does not rule out the idea of Amorim staying with Van Nistelrooy until the end of the season. “I’m sure he’ll bring his own Sporting team. But if you feel like you need a connection, someone who knows Manchester United, the team, who’s been there the last few weeks… You can ask him to stay until the end of the season.”
