Robert Doornbos and Rob Kamphues are in the program Crashing in the Kitchen looked back on the Brazilian Grand Prix and especially looked at the statement that Max Verstappen made when he crossed the finish line as the winner. They also discussed how the Dutchman can become champion in Las Vegas.
After Verstappen’s fantastic performance at Interlagos, he can win the title in Las Vegas in two weeks, as Doornbos also knows. “You have to make sure you score 2 points more than Norris in Las Vegas,” is the simple calculation. “Then you can have a party there. Then you will be world champion for the fourth time.” After what Verstappen showed in Brazil, Doornbos thinks he should actually get the crown. “In fact, with Sunday’s performance he should get that title. Isn’t he simply the best driver of all time?”, is what the former Formula 1 driver said.
Verstappen annoyed by all the bullshit
Kamphues must also agree that what Verstappen showed in Brazil was fantastic. “This was unimaginable,” he says. “I was looking at those sector times: purple, purple, purple. Purple, yellow, purple…” According to Doornbos, this was also partly due to everything that had happened recently, including in Brazil. “He was annoyed, because there had been a lot of bullshit all weekend. Last weekends at least. This triple header was quite intense, with Austin, Mexico and then here [in Brazilië, red.].”

Everyone was critical of Max
Kamphues joins in: “In Mexico, of course, everyone was critical. In Mexico you and Olav were [Mol, red.] critical… We were all critical of Max.” Doornbos acknowledges that. “Yes, but it wasn’t his best weekend either. But if you take that with you four days later and then on Friday you have to deal with the FIA again, that bad luck with the flags, you have bad luck with red and you start seventeenth in the Grand Prix… And then win, drive away… Wow, man, that is unprecedented,” said Doornbos.
Even the English press will never forget this
According to Doornbos, the English press was also blown away by what Verstappen showed at Interlagos. “No one is critical of him anymore?” asks Kamphues. “No, but this is not possible! I think Hamilton once put the entire field on a lap in the rain in 2008; those are one of those legendary races that you will never forget. This one [in Brazilië, red. ] you will never forget!”, concludes Doornbos.
