Bayern Munich’s new signing Hiroki Ito underwent another operation on his metatarsal

A bitter setback for Bayern defender Hiroki Ito: The Japanese had to go under the knife again on Tuesday.

Defender Hiroki Ito still has to wait for his debut for FC Bayern Munich. As the record champions announced on their homepage on Tuesday afternoon, the 25-year-old had to undergo another operation on his metatarsal. The procedure was carried out on Tuesday and “went well”.

Bayern did not reveal what made the operation necessary or how long Ito will be out for.

The former Stuttgart player’s suffering continues: Ito was brought in from VfB in the summer for a transfer fee of 23.5 million euros, but suffered a broken metatarsal in a test match at the end of July. Since then he has been working towards his comeback, most recently he was in advanced training.

For the Swabians, for whom he played between 2021 and 2024, he played 97 competitive games, recording two goals and five assists. His contract at Säbener Straße runs until June 30, 2028.
