uncle. For the third home game of the new season, team captain Claudia Bauch welcomed the “old acquaintances” from Mendig on behalf of her team from SV Unkel. Half of their team now consists of “father-mother-child” Thomas, Yvonne and Jella Strahl, which proves that badminton is a family sport. Both teams had to replace players who were unable to play; SV Unkel was missing Sandra Schreiber, who was unavailable for work, and William Unkel, who was ill.
After the doubles, SV Unkel was behind 1:2, only Skender Bunjaku and Claus Schulte were able to score points in two sets. The two veterans initially had a hard time in the individual rounds and made it exciting as their competitors were able to hold their own. Nevertheless, both held their own in the deciding sentences. In the meantime, Tetiana Horets had recorded a pleasing victory in the women’s singles, so a draw was now certain. As expected, Arun Karuvelil in the 3rd men’s singles and Claudia Bauch and Olaf Radcke in the mixed doubles had to acknowledge Mendiger’s superiority. So they split with a fair 4:4 draw.
But a few hours later things turned out differently in favor of the Unkeler: The guests had not lined up their men’s doubles according to the rules and so the relay leader immediately changed the lost 2nd men’s doubles in favor of SV Unkel. And once again you can see that even experienced players too often act according to tactics and not according to the rules when setting up a team. And so SV Unkel is currently in second place in the table. The next games are likely to be difficult, in November things will happen in quick succession!
