Mexico City.- The Mexican badminton team successfully closed its participation in the XV Mexican International 2024held at the Morelos University Sports and Cultural Poliforum, in Aguascalientes, where they achieved four medals in various modalities. With outstanding performances in the singles and doubles categories, the national athletes won gold, silver and bronze medals.
In the individual mode, Luis Armando Montoya won the silver medal after a close final against the American Mark Alcalá, with a score of 2-1 (21-15, 18-21 and 21-12). For its part, Sabrina Solís secured bronze in the women’s categorybeing left out in the semifinals when they fell to the Guatemalan Nikte Sotomayor by 2-0 (21-14 and 21-14).
Montoya’s success was consolidated in mixed doubles, where, together with Miriam Rodriguezwon the gold medal by defeating the Guatemalan duo made up of Christopher Martínez and Diana Corleto with a score of 2-0 (21-16 and 21-11). In this category, bronze went to Americans Yu-Yuan Chang and Katelin Ngo.
Rodríguez repeated her feat in women’s doublesthis time teaming up with Romina Fregoso, both bronze winners at the recent Pan American Games in Santiago 2023. The Mexican duo beat their compatriots Cecilia Madera and Isabella Puente in the final with a result of 2-0 (21-16 and 21-17). The bronze in this category went to the Peruvians Fernanda and Rafaela Munar.
With these results, the Mexican badminton team continues its international agenda and prepares for the Canadian International Challenge 2024 in Markham, Canada, where they will compete from December 3 to 8, seeking to close the year with more sporting achievements.
