Robin Kovacs was mocked by Luleå supporters this weekend.

Chants were heard from the audience about the fatal crash in which his friend lost his life.

Now Luleå HF apologizes.

There was an SHL match between Luleå and Linköping in Helgen, so Linköping’s Robin Kovacs was mocked by a Luleå supporter.

Kovacs was involved in a fatal traffic accident in 2017, in which he lost his friend.

After the match, he told Expressen that it is not the first time that people have used the fatal crash to mock him.

– Almost every match. Both from players and supporters, Kovacs told The Express.

He considers the chants unacceptable.

– I hope for a consequence, so people understand the seriousness of it, otherwise maybe you will start hanging out players and supporters, he said after the match.

“Distancing”

Now Luleå HF apologizes.

“Regardless, through this statement we want to apologize to Robin Kovacs, Linköping HC and everyone else who heard the chant and clarify that Luleå Hockey dissociates itself from it in its entirety.”, writes the club on its website.

The club also announces that it has begun work to try to identify who is behind the chant.

“Happily, the majority in the stands showed that they did not want to stand for the chant and it was instead replaced with other chants which shows the great support that we are privileged to benefit from and which is so important for the atmosphere in our arena.”

“The association’s security organization has been working since the weekend to try to identify who is behind this action and our basic position is that it is these individuals who should be held responsible and not the entire supporter collective.”
