Basketball star Joel Embiid has been suspended for three games by the NBA for physically assaulting a journalist. The North American professional league announced this decision two days after the incident in the dressing room of the Philadelphia 76ers. Embiid pushed the Philadelphia Inquirer columnist following the 107-124 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Embiid has not played for the 76ers again since winning the Olympics with the USA in Paris in the summer and was criticized for this by the journalist in an article. Embiid is suffering from knee problems. Apparently because his deceased brother and his son named after him were also mentioned in an initial version, Embiid was angry and argued with the journalists when the media representatives came in after the game against the Grizzlies, as is usual in US sports came to the booth to conduct interviews.
Embiid’s suspension will take effect from the moment he is healthy and fit to play again, the NBA said in a statement. The Olympic champion will not receive any salary during the ban.
