Masters Cup: Andres Martin, Alcaraz’s sparring partner and another promise of American tennis who preferred university

The organization of the ATP finals does a meticulous selection of the three ‘sparring’ which makes available to the eight tennis players classified for the masters event and also the two reserves, who in this case are Grigor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Martin, 439th in the world ranking at 23 years oldis one of the many cases of players from his country who prefer to go through university before making the leap to professionalism.

In his case, he enrolled in Engineering at Georgia Tech.. He made his professional debut in the Atlana tournament in 2021, playing doubles with Keshav Chopra. A year later, in the same contest, he would achieve the first and only ATP victory against the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis. He had entered the picture thanks to a ‘wild card’ from the organization.

Martin will experience a special day this afternoon since he will be Carlos Alcaraz’s sparring partnertwo years younger than him, in the Murcian’s first training session at the Alpitour headquarters. Martin led Georgia Teach to the lead in the American university league in 2024, with records of 22 wins and four losses in singles.
