Félix Lebrun had to fight to dispose of the Korean An Jaehyun this Wednesday but managed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the WTT Champions in Frankfurt.
Félix Lebrun, world No.5, qualified after a great battle on Wednesday for the quarter-finals of the WTT Champions in Frankfurt, the second level tournament in the world, by dismissing the Korean An Jaehyun, three sets to one.
The meeting was contested between Félix Lebrun, confident after his title won in Montpellier at the end of October, and An Jaehyun, 25th in the world, who delivered an excellent performance.
While the Frenchman won the first set and dominated the second more widely, the 24-year-old South Korean snatched the third set. The latter led 8-9 in the fourth before Félix Lebrun equalized and finally made the difference on his serve to win 11-9, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9. “The more the match went on, the more difficult it became for me, so I’m very happy to go to the quarters,” said the 18-year-old after the match.
Félix Lebrun avoided being surprised on a day where the world No.1, the Chinese Wang Chuqin, was swept away by the Swede Anton Kallberg three sets to zero in this tournament which is part of the second level of the international circuit, at like the WTT Champions in Montpellier.
After Simon Gauzy, Jia Nan Yuan and Alexis Lebrun eliminated earlier this week, Prithika Pavade, 20th in the world, was unable to do anything in the second round against the Japanese Satsuki Odo (10th), victorious in Montpellier, and who won three sets to zero, 11-3, 11-8, 11-3.
