At the weekend, the 14-year-old from Eichberg secured the gold medal in both the U15 and U18 categories (both in the weight class up to 44 kg) at the ranking tournament in Uster. This qualified her for the Swiss Championships, which will take place on November 30th in Yverdon-les-Bains.
After her double gold success at the tournament in Buchs, Helena Zäch traveled to Uster highly motivated and took on the challenge in the U18 category on Saturday. The competition was strong, but the woman from Eichberg left no doubt about her skills: in the first fight against Julia Alali (JC St. Gallen/Gossau) she left no room for maneuver and won after just 43 seconds. She also proved her superiority in the second duel and defeated Clarissa Bernasconi from JBC Bellinzona in 1:33 minutes. Helena Zäch secured the decisive victory against Eloisa Del Don from Judo Kwai Biasca in just 22 seconds – and thus the ticket for the Swiss championship.
Superior victory in the U15 category
On Sunday Helena Zäch also competed in the U15 category, where she gave her opponents no chance. With her offensive, consistent judo, she won all her fights early using ippon. The longest fight lasted just 48 seconds – further evidence of their impressive form and determination.
Helena Zäch trains at the Judo and Ju-Jitsu Club Rheintal in Balgach and also uses the training opportunities in the St. Gallen performance center and in the cantonal squad. With iron discipline and passion, she has already won seven gold and two silver medals this year. She used the fall break for an intensive training camp in Elm to further refine her technique.
