November 6, 2024.- The board of directors of the Yucatan Lions club continue to take firm steps towards the 2025 season and make official the incorporation of the young Cuban pitcher, Reynaldo Ariel Álvarez, who will wear the colors of Yucatán next season.
In October of this year, Reynaldo arrived in the city of Mérida to seek an MLB (Major League Baseball) signature along with other Cubans where he was seen by the eyes of scout Raúl Ortega, who commented that he has a sustained fastball of up to 95 mph (miles per hour), as well as breaking pitches such as the split-finger, curveball and slider.
The 23-year-old right-hander saw action in professional ball for the first time in the 2019-20 season in his native country with the Avispas de Santiago de Cuba, in the Cuban National Series, where he left an ERA of 4.15 in 4.1 IP, and in In 2023-2024 he had an ERA of 2.63, in that same year, he struck out 32 opponents in 24.0 innings pitched.
