Vibrant derby at the “Giovanni Scavo”, where the return match of the round of 32 of the Italian Cup pits the hosts Vjs and Lariano against each other. Valenti’s team needs a victory with a two-goal difference, the yellow-greens are playing for two results out of three.
Vjs Velletri started off on the right foot, determined to overturn the result of the first leg, and in the first twenty minutes they remained firmly in the opponent’s half of the field. The Rossoneri came close to scoring on several occasions, it was always the defense or the aim that saved Zazzaro, but in the 25th minute the good goalkeeper from Lariano could do nothing on the corner pattern which freed Costanzo at the far post, the Veliterno defender made no mistakes and scored excellently position. Lariano’s reaction was not long in coming and it took the guests three minutes to equalise: Gallo’s own goal following an unfortunate combination and the result was back in balance. The last quarter of an hour of the first half was lively, with various reversals in front: Lariano maneuvered, looked for depth and managed to cross into the area on various occasions, Vjs Velletri was quick on the restart and tried to worry Zazzaro but without hit the target. We go to half-time at 1-1.
In the second half the pace remains high, Vjs Velletri attacks at full speed and comes close to scoring on at least two sensational occasions: the first in the 20th minute when Zazzaro does a great job of repelling Costanzo’s close shot and sending it onto the crossbar, then directly from a corner with another good save from the guest goalkeeper who unleashes a mocking save into the corner. The Rossoneri are constantly in the opponent’s area, making themselves dangerous from set pieces, Lariano doesn’t stand by and tries to attack on the restart. In the end the result does not change and the qualification is won by the guests, by virtue of the 1-0 in the first leg.
Regret for Valenti’s team who played well but failed to score the goal that would have led to the penalty shootout. Credit goes to Lariano, who proved to be an excellent team over the course of one hundred and eighty minutes.
