Wilfried Jörres, who has been intensively involved in shaping events in badminton Germany as Vice President of the German Badminton Association (DBV) since 2020, has resigned from his position with immediate effect for personal reasons.
Wilfried Jörres was initially appointed DBV Vice President in 2020 and was then elected for four years at the DBV Association Conference in 2022. Within the DBV executive board, the Bergheimer was responsible for numerous areas.
For example, he was responsible for the “Badminton Germany” project, the administration of the committee for competitive sports, the O19 game operation, the age group area, the Badminton Deutschland mbH (VBD) marketing company, the data collection of the game operation and the introduction and development of the U19/O19 ranking systems responsible. In addition, he took care of personnel matters – together with DBV President Ralf Michaelis – and took over the external representation of the DBV towards the Badminton World Association BWF, the European Badminton Association BEC and the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).
Wilfried Jörres – who was awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the BWF in 2018 for his services to the sport of badminton – was also intensively involved in the organization of the YONEX German Open and various other international tournaments for many years.
“I very much regret this decision. Wilfried Jörres achieved a lot during his years in office thanks to his high level of expertise, his contacts and his great commitment. The knowledge he shared with us and the learning he imparted to us was incomparable. He was a real leader for us and we will miss him very much. On behalf of the DBV, I would like to thank him very much for everything he has implemented or initiated in badminton Germany,” said DBV President Ralf Michaelis.
