(Frisco) Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a partially torn hamstring and, as a result, surgery is a possibility, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Thursday.

The injury, called a partial avulsion, will likely result in a longer absence than the expected four games if Prescott is placed on the injured list.
An operation that would end his season could also be considered, this person said. This person spoke on condition of anonymity with the AP because the team has not publicly revealed details of Prescott’s injury.
During training camp two years ago, former Cowboys left tackle Tyron Smith suffered a complete avulsion, meaning the muscle was completely detached from the bone and that surgery had become unavoidable, and he had missed 13 games.
Prescott was injured in the second half of a game that ended in a 27-21 victory for the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday. The Cowboys (3-5) plan to give Cooper Rush several starts, including Sunday’s home game against their NL East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.
