The Neuquén delegation that is participating in a new edition of the Evita National Sports Games closed another positive day of competition this Thursday with the women’s teams taking center stage. On this occasion, nearly 8,000 athletes from all over the country compete.
In 3×3 basketball they advanced to the final and the rhythmic gymnastics team did the same, while beach handball and rugby will go for the same goal.
In the individual competitions Máximo Rettig was the most outstanding of the day by advancing for the third consecutive year in the badminton final while the adapted athletes continue to add a total of five medals to the medal table in athletics and swimming: two gold, two silver and one bronze.
Basketball and beach handaball
At the end of the day, women’s basketball, a team led by Iara Parra, won in overtime against Santa Cruz after tying 5-5 and finally winning 8-6. In the definition for gold they will face Entre Ríos.
As has been the case in recent years, women’s beach handball is among the four best and this Friday they will seek a place in the final against Córdoba.
The team led by Zoe Raiman won the shoot out definition against Río Negro 7-2 after winning the first set 11-7 and losing in the second 17-10. For their part, the men beat Corrientes 2-0 (14-12 and 19-12) and now they will seek to beat Río Negro (they must do so by two sets to zero) to also advance to the podium area and fight for the bronze .
Rugby and hockey
Women’s rugby will have to do the same, after losing to Córdoba 35 to 12, it will face Río Negro at the close of the qualifying phase and, depending on the result of the match, they will have a chance to fight for bronze.
In hockey, the girls beat Salta 1-0 and fell to Corrientes 3-0, while the men will complete the day this Friday. Both without a chance to fight for the podium.
Individual sports
Máximo Rettig, from the city of Neuquén, entered the badminton final of the Evita Games for the third consecutive year by defeating a rival from Misiones in the semifinals. Meanwhile, her partner, Chosmalense Milagros Berraondo, could not beat the representative from Mendoza and will go for the bronze.
In rhythmic gymnastics Neuquén is in the team final in freestyle and hoops. In canoeing, the best place was fifth place by Francisco Leiva and Sofia Alessiani.
In Olympic lifting, the boys from Neuquén were in final B and did not manage to enter the championship zone. For their part, in archery Gonzalo Mellado and Georgina Calalesina were also unable to advance to the championship zone.
In taekwondo Bautista Palacios in category A and Eluney Aranda and Sofía Barrera, in category B, stood out on the day.
More medals for adapted sports
Athletes with disabilities continued with their contribution to the medal table. On the synthetic floor track of the Municipal Sports and Recreation Entity, Mateo Sepúlveda won the gold medal in long jump. In addition, Magdalena Soto, in 100 meters, and Samuel Giannobile, in the same distance, won the silver medal.
In swimming, Emir Prado won the gold medal in the 25-meter breaststroke and bronze in the butterfly. Meanwhile, Ian Diguiay and Alexander Medina will close the table tennis activity tomorrow.
