It is difficult to determine the general situation of the different sports disciplines in Holguín in 2024, taking into account the positions achieved in the pioneer, school and youth categories, because the contrasting results between these levels predominate.
Only four disciplines had performances in the three mentioned categories, since in the rest there were no scheduled competitions, they were suspended or this province did not participate.
We previously reported that we still have to know what has been done by the first category or adults, which has not yet concluded its reduced calendar, although we already have baseball and boxing for adults. When all the adult performances can be counted, the assessment will be more complete and comprehensive, but what has been seen in the previous levels shows how the different sports are doing.
Of the group that competed in the three levels treated, artistic gymnastics stands out, making it a strong contender to be the most outstanding individual discipline of the year in this province, due to its first place in pioneer and fourth places in school and youth, plus the number of medals and outstanding individual performances
Another discipline with a meritorious harvest is tennis with fifth place in pioneer, third in school and fourth in youth. Taekwondo can be considered regular, having eighth position in pioneer, seventh in school and tenth in youth.
Baseball and boxing, the only ones with their four categories concluded, are two examples of the contrasting results that we point out. When looking at the ball we see how good the title was in school and the fifth place in youth, however, it shows a terrible sixteenth in pioneer and fourteenth in seniors (national series).
Boxing, very good in adults (Playa Girón Tournament) with its fourth place, but bad with twelfth places in pioneer and school and eleventh in youth. If we stick to these positions in both sports, we can say that the future looks better in the ball, but gray in boxing.
With performances only in pioneer and school, respectively and with disparity are chess (tenth and fifth), judo (twelfth and seventh); regular, athletics (eighth and ninth); bad, weights (eighth and eleventh) and better the modern pentathlon (eighth and second).
Of those that present respectively performances in school and youth, the most level and advanced are fencing (seventh and second), diving (sixth and third) and sports shooting (fifth and seventh); rowing (eleventh and third) and soccer (eleventh and fifth) were very different; regular, indoor volleyball (eleventh and sixth) and bad karate do (fourteenth and thirteenth).
Good, but with only results in school: cycling (first), badminton, rhythmic gymnastics and sailing (all fourth); artistic swimming (fifth), regular: water polo, women’s softball and beach volleyball (sixth), triathlon (seventh) and handball (eighth); bad: rowing (eleventh), skating and table tennis (twelfth) and wrestling (thirteenth).
Motocross, without finishing all its competitions for the year, is first in the country. In this sport all ages participate in each tournament.
No results for any participation: basketball, canoeing, swimming, Basque pelota and archery. Disciplines that demand other analyzes, since they had positive behaviors in recent times and have declined: handball, judo, weightlifting, rowing and taekwondo.
It is observed that disciplines maintain their poor performance, including the majority of collective disciplines. Other examinations will come, which should include the causes of the various behaviors.
