Classes taught by a judo black belt

In June, the Raymond-Poulin nursing home welcomed judoka Patrick Mery, technical advisor to the Loiret committee, who came to offer seniors a session of physical exercises intended to maintain their muscle tone.

A file, aimed at perpetuating this activity, was being examined and was submitted to the Regional Health Agency (ARS) by Thomas de Boysson, director of the nursing home, and two other of his colleagues from the Orléans agglomeration.

He has just been accepted! Thursday afternoon, the first course took place in Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle. Residents of the Raymond-Poulin nursing home and members of Clos de la Jeunette, associated with the project, will therefore be able to benefit from forty one-hour sessions, spread over twenty days, over the coming months.

Thanks to the ARS subsidy, a contract was able to be signed between the training organization of the Centre-Val de Loire regional judo league and the three specialized establishments: Raymond-Poulin, but also Nazareth for Orléans, and Les Shades for La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin.

A meeting with young judokas

In Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle, classes will be taught by Mathieu Gouault, black belt of the local club. The term “course” seems entirely relevant because, in addition to muscle strengthening techniques that residents will be able to reproduce themselves, they will also be presented with a simple way to be able to get up, independently, after a fall.

For this, Mathieu recently went to train in Tours (Indre-et-Loire) with ten other future instructors. During his three-day internship, he was able to meet an occupational therapist, a psychologist, a nursing home director as well as experienced instructors, including Patrick Mery.

The sixth dan, never short of ideas, is now thinking about organizing a meeting between the residents of the establishment and young judokas from the Stéoruellan club.
